We are very grateful to JOHN OLDHAM and THE OLDHAM FOUNDATION for generous support to the festival for several years.

Here’s a video of Scott performing ‘Blue Ain’t Nothing but a Colour’ at O2 London: https://youtu.be/oJDFHzHoXos

Thanks to John’s continuing sponsorship we are able to invite SCOTT JAMES back for the 2020 Cheltenham Poetry Festival.
Scott is already nick-named ‘The Bob Dylan of rap’ and this year he’s going to perform work inspired by Dylan THOMAS as part of the new project Dear Dylan. Dear Dylan is a forthcoming anthology of poetry, letters and more – inspired by Dylan Thomas. To be published by Indigo Dreams, editor Anna Saunders – Festival Chief Executive Officer.

Love, and poetry was in this air last Saturday 7th September.
We enjoyed an absolute smorgasbord of poetry and creative workshops at The Sober Parrot.

Festival Founder and Executive Director Anna Saunders ran her regular, popular poetry workshop in the morning following by Seren-Books poet Jonathan Edwards ‘This is How We Love’ masterclass in the afternoon.

Jonathan read his poignant, witty and award-winning poetry in the evening.  Our enrapt audience loved hearing from Gen (Seren) – described as a ‘triumph’ in the press — and My Family and Other Super Heroes which won the Costa Poetry Book Award.

Jonathan’s work has more than a touch of Dylan Thomas in its loving, humorous and vivid portraits of people and places.  He’s a brilliant poet, who fuses mastery of craft with a transcendent musicality and verve.  We were walking on air by the time he had finished.

Cheltenham Library Poet in Residence Josephine Lay read as Jonathan’s support and we enjoyed delicate yet potent, emotionally candid and sometimes very funny poems. All were performed with power and charisma.

Our open mic was full to bursting with really strong work from these fabulous poets:

Annie Ellis, Robin Gilbert, Christine Griffin, Marcelle Newbold, Ian Parker Dodd, Howard Timms, Zoe Brooks, Patricia Camp, Charlie Markwick, Peter Lay, Charles Thompson, and Marilyn Timms.

We look forward to our next Cheltenham Poetry Festival Appetiser event on 7 November – Janet Lees book launch and hope you will join us for a reading by Janet Lees, Angela France and Marilyn Timms.
